Seeking Participants to Take Part in Fertility Needs and Desires Study for HIV+ Women Living in Ontario

Currently, Dr Mona Loutfy of the Women’s College Research Institute in Toronto is spearheading an Ontario-wide study to determine the fertility needs and desires of HIV+ women living in Ontario. The plan is to address current access to fertility clinics and family planning resources in order to improve services and quality of care and to develop future programs and implement provincial policies for HIV+ women who wish to have children. This study aims to recruit 350 HIV+ women from across Ontario. Recruitment efforts will rely on AIDS service organizations, Community Health Centres as well as HIV clinics through out the province starting in April and continuing on until September 2008.

Women who take part in the study will be required to sign an informed consent form and will also be asked to fill out a questionnaire, which on average takes 60 minutes to complete. Participants will be given a $25 honorarium for their participation to cover their costs for travel and daycare. There is no need for any follow-up study visits and it is completely confidential.

We believe that this project is very important to the lives of HIV+ women as it aims to provide the medical community with a better understanding of the fertility needs and desires of HIV+ women in order to bring about more supportive measures and to improve the quality and accessibility of programs and policies.
