The Strategy has entered into a wonderful partnership with Jean Tweed Pathways to Healthy Families which has an Aboriginal Worker located at the Strategy office in Toronto. She is available for Aboriginal women who are pregnant and/or parenting and have substance use issues. Services are confidential and the worker can be reached at 416-944-9481 x221

The Jean Tweed Centre for Women, together with a handful of dedicated community partners, offers an interconnecting service network across the city of Toronto to reduce barriers to service experienced by pregnant and parenting women who use substances.

This program, called Pathways to Healthy Families, has a mandate to build capacity among service providers. Outreach services, both direct and indirect, aim to reach pregnant women and mothers, and their children (0-6 years).  Services include: information, assessment and referral, support, assistance with child welfare, parenting programs and child development services.

Other services offered by The Jean Tweed Centre for women with substance abuse and or problem gambling concerns include: day/residential treatment, out-patient counselling (family, trauma and continuing care) and additional outreach services for women with concurrent disorders and current involvement with the criminal justice system.

The Jean Tweed Centre works from a women-centered framework, validating the experiences of women and contextualizing substance abuse within a broader social and cultural experience, including trauma and violence.
