ORGANIZATIONAL MEMBERSHIP

WHO CAN BECOME A MEMBER?

We actively encourage eligible Indigenous applicants, people living with HIV or a diagnosis of hepatitis C, and eligible people actively using harm reduction services, 

who are interested in gaining experience in a corporate governance setting. Eligibility is determined by ONCA and the Oahas by-laws.

THIS INCLUDES

  • Individuals with experience on Oahas committees (past or present), eligible persons who benefit from Oahas or their family members, and, who arepart of the Oahas community at-large, and are over the age of 18.
  • A trusted community member, a community network member, or someone who works within the sector as a professional or volunteer. Former Oahas staff must respect a 12-month transition period prior to applying for organizational membership

Organizational membership is NOT a requirement to access Oahas programs and services, and community who access programs and services are not by default registered as Oahas organizational members. Clients, program participants and their families may choose to register annually as organizational Members to participate in Oahas’ governance.

Members' Responsibilities

  • Attend the Annual Members’ Meeting and any Special Members’ meetings 
  • Appoint the auditors for Oahas 
  • Review and accept Oahas annual audited financial statements 
  • Appoint/Elect the Oahas Board of Directors 
  • Review and approve the Oahas by-laws as required

Member Benefits

  • Gain experience within a community non-profit charitable agency and as it relates to organizational governance
  • Receive Oahas Annual Reports 
  • Receive Notice of Members’ meetings 
  • Be eligible for Board election 
  • Vote on by-law changes
